Sledding, Service, and a Better Dreidel

Woo-hoo!  Another snow day!

Little flurries started falling around midday, and the schools let out early so kids could get home before the roads got too slick.  I picked up a plastic toboggan while I was out running errands this morning, and the girls had fun riding it down the little bunny hill near our home.

I also bought a new dreidel that doesn't land on the same side every time like our old one did.  After the girls came in to warm up we played the dreidel game with minty chocolate candies.  We're not Jewish, but I take Ben Stiller's Jewish/Christian* family's view of holiday traditions: if it involves fun and food, we're totally on board.  Daniel asked if there's a rule that you can only play with dreidels at Hanukkah time.  I said there isn't, just like there's no rule that you can't carve jack-o-lanterns at Christmas; people just don't tend to do it.

Meanwhile, Joy decided to combine art with recreation.

After the snow stopped falling, the girls decided to give some neighborly service by brushing snow off our neighbors' windshields.

Yay! Daddy's home!

*Ben Stiller's dad Jerry was a Jew with Eastern European ancestry, and his mom Anne was an Irish Catholic.  Anne converted to Judaism six years after marrying Jerry, but the family liked to share fun traditions from both their parents' ethnic and religious backgrounds.  Sounds good to me. :)
