Our little girl outgrew her summer sandals all to quickly, so we headed to the store today to look for some new shoes. Most of the "girl" shoes sported rhinestones or sequins, and their pretty white exteriors would look grungy after about two seconds at the playground. Since Joy's mama is usually more interested in practicality than fashion, we ended up buying . . .
. . . some sensible brown shoes. From the "boy" section.
And yes, I am aware that I will only be able to get away with this for a few more months. Before I know it, Joy will probably refuse to wear anything but the sparkly "girl" shoes with tiara-bearing Disney characters on them. Ah well--to each her own, right?

My girls never insisted on having sparkly pink shoes. I think they were always just happy to have a new pair. When Ellie learned to tie shoe laces, Brian took her to buy some shoelace shoes. You would think she would pick something really girlie, but instead she picked some sneakers that were mostly white with a little tan and pink in them. She said she wanted them to be neutral so they could match with lots of things!
I saw some nice darker colored Dora sneakers at Walmart when looking for new shoes for Georgia. We ended up at Target which also has a good selection. But, I think you did a good job at picking out some cool looking shoes that will wear. One of the hardest things as they get older is to try to steer them toward what is more practical.
i think they look GREAT! you never know ... she just might pick sensible shoes over sparkles and rhinestones.
