Papa and Red Grandma let the kids sleep over last night (THANK YOU!!!!) while Phillip and I packed our very last boxes and tied up some loose ends before our big departure. Around 1pm we rolled away from South Pasadena . . .
. . . and drove right past this massive brush fire that started two hours earlier. Drought-ridden California gave us a big send-off with 108-degree temperatures and two wildfires within thirty miles of our apartment.
We stopped for dinner at a place in Needles, where it actually felt hotter than Los Angeles at midday even though the Sun was going down. The waitress informed us it had been 123 degrees in Needles that day. The residents of that town must be hardy souls indeed.
